Hi

As a fellow Thames lovers, I thought I’d drop you a line to tell you about my recently published book ‘The River’s Revenge’.

A crime novel, the backdrop is the Met’s Marine Unit at Wapping, although I have chosen to keep their former, more romantic title of Thames Division, which has rarely appeared in crime fiction. However, it’s a very contemporary story about a very real terrorist threat, which begins with a body being pulled from the river.

The story based on meticulous research, supported by information from serving and former marine officers including former PC Bob Jeffries, now a trustee of the Thames River Police Museum and Archive, who rewardingly described The River’s Revenge as a “A cracking good read!”

My website obviously promotes the book (!), but there’s also lots of background to see and read about the origins of the river police, the surrounding community and more.

hello chris
would it be possible to add a link from your web site to

www.cookhamregatta.org.uk

The Rotary clubs of Cookham Bridge and Marlow Thames organise an annual fun regatta on the river Thames in aid of local and internationlal charities. It involves races with dragooboats, canoe catamarans, and dongolas (a canoed punt). There is planty of fun on the landside as well.

Hi Chris

Very nce informative web site. I was wondering if you knew of any companies hiring out an affordable Power Boat with own Skipper proving a tailored individual service - such as a 2 hour trip and a picnic along the Thames or a romantic champagne cruise for 2.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the message and it is indeed a concern!
I believe there maybe certain exemptions available if/when they apply a restriction which will allow certain operators the ability to contiune at 'high speed'. As you say, and I agree, I really hope they don't blanket the limit as I beleive like on public roads speed is not a problem it is inappropriate speed that is the issue. I also note that the river bus service operates at high speed...

Thanks

Hi Chris,

Nice website and good description of all the speed boats and RIBS.

Shame is, that if the PLA get their way, a draconian speed limit will soon be imposed on most of the Thames all the way out to Gravesend, which means the speedboats will have to travel so slowly you'd get more thrills from being in a rowing boat with Aunt Mavis on the Serpentine!

I hope you and your contacts are opposing this terrible new bylaw.

Best wishes
